I come to the MB family from the North American Baptist Conference of churches, which is a German Baptist conference with much in common with MB anabaptist roots. I was born into, discipled and experienced a definitive call to ministry in the Ebenezer Baptist Church in south Vancouver. My mother was Mennonite and my father a Baptist, so I grew up in both worlds depending on which side of the family was gathering.
I received a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from the North American Baptist College in Edmonton, AB (now Taylor), and then a M. Div from Regent College in Vancouver.
I have served as a Youth Pastor for five years in Edmonton, AB, and then as a Lead Pastor for six years in Prince George, BC. While in Prince George, I experienced a clear direction from the Lord to plant a church in Calgary, AB (McKenzie Towne Church). This plant was formative for me as I saw God provide in circumstances that were beyond human capacity.
After ten years in Calgary, I was asked to lead Church Planting and International Missions for our Conference. This required a move to Chicago as the NAB conference is Bi-national with churches in both the US and Canada. It was my responsibility to bring renewed vision and trust to our missionaries, our international partner organizations, and to work with our Executive team to bring missional renewal to the churches in the US and Canada.
We relocated our International office from Chicago to Sacramento in my third year, and as an executive team, we rebuilt a new support staff, and raised new director level leadership. The work of missional renewal continued both in the US and Canada, and with our international partner organizations.
After ten years of executive leadership, and far too much international travel away from home, I resigned this position to return to my first love, which is leading a local church. The Lord graciously provided a landing place for us at Mountain Park Community Church in Abbotsford, which has allowed me to return to my family roots in the Fraser Valley, and contribute to the support and care of my aging mother.
Melissa and I have been married 41 years. We have three married children, and seven grandchildren. We love camping, hiking, and kayaking so a return to BC is a gift to us. And I love cycling in the Fraser Valley. God is generous!
